Apple deletes WhatsApp and Threads from App Store in China

Apple announced on Friday its decision to remove WhatsApp and Threads from its App Store in China due to government security concerns.

According to Apple, the Cyberspace Administration of China mandated the removal of these apps from the Chinese storefront citing national security worries.

Apple emphasized that it is adhering to the regulations of the country it operates in, despite any differences in opinion.

As of now, neither the Cyberspace Administration of China nor Meta has issued any statements. Queries directed to Meta have been redirected to Apple.

Other Meta apps like Facebook and Instagram will remain accessible. Additionally, since WhatsApp and Threads will still be available on Apple's app store in other regions, individuals in China with iCloud accounts registered outside the country can still download these apps.
