Meta to remove content about eating disorders and suicide from teenagers' Facebook and Instagram pages
On Tuesday, Meta announced that it will begin removing offensive material from adolescent accounts on Facebook and Instagram, such as messages concerning eating disorders, self-harm, and suicide.
This "age-inappropriate" content is already not recommended to teenagers by the social media behemoth based in Menlo Park, California; however, it will no longer appear in their feeds, even if it is shared by an account they follow. This announcement was made in a blog post.
“We want teens to have safe, age-appropriate experiences on our apps,” Meta said.
In addition, teen users will have their accounts set to the most restrictive settings on Instagram and Facebook and won't be able to search for potentially dangerous phrases, assuming they didn't lie about their age when they signed up.
