Microsoft is looking into a problem with its Teams app and Microsoft 365 service after some customers told DownDetector that they were experiencing issues with services including Outlook and Exchange.

Early on Monday morning, the software company said it was looking into a problem that was affecting users of Microsoft Teams and Exchange Online. Numerous workplaces worldwide rely significantly on Microsoft 365 apps, such as Teams and Outlook.

Microsoft said early Monday on social networking platform X that it is investigating "an issue impacting users attempting to access Exchange Online or functionality within Microsoft Teams calendar." According to user postings, the issue seems to be impacting Microsoft users worldwide.

"We've identified a recent change which we believe has resulted in impact. We've started to revert the change and are investigating what additional actions are required to mitigate the issue," Microsoft added in a subsequent post.

Teams is mostly used in offices for online chat and video conferences, whereas Microsoft 365 is a subscription-based program that bundles services like Word and Excel together with cloud-based storage. As of early Monday morning, people reported problems with Microsoft services on social media, despite the fact that DownDetector, an online site that records computer failures, only had a few dozen complaints of trouble with 365.

The Irish university's IT department posted on X that the University of Galway "is aware of an issue impacting some Microsoft 365 services, including Outlook, Outlook Calendars, Teams etc." "This is an intermittent issue impacting Microsoft 365 customers globally. Microsoft is aware & investigating."

The business reported that the patch had reached "approximately 98% of the affected environments" by midday, although the number of Downdetector reports continued to rise. The process of upgrades reaching customers' systems may take some time.

The issues with Microsoft 365 on Monday follow a significant outage in July that affected banks, airlines, health systems, and other sectors that depend on the service due to a technical issue brought on by the international cybersecurity company CrowdStrike.

Numerous lawsuits resulted from the interruption, which caused thousands of flights and rail services to be canceled worldwide. Delta Air Lines is suing Microsoft and CrowdStrike for the outage that disrupted the airline's internal systems and created havoc for passengers.

Over the summer, CrowdStrike's software problem caused what has been dubbed the greatest IT outage in history, stopping air travel, disrupting hospitals, and causing direct losses of over $5 billion for Fortune 500 corporations.

About 98% of the "affected environments" have received the patch, according to Microsoft, which stated just before noon that "our targeted restarts required for mitigation are being performed as quickly as possible."

Customers were irritated when the firm posted another social media statement at 1:51 p.m., admitting that it was "facing delays" in restoring the impacted 365 services.

"We understand the significant impact of this event to your businesses and are working to provide relief as soon as possible," stated Microsoft.
