Verizon stated that its network was suffering a technical difficulty as hundreds of thousands of subscribers reported being unable to access their mobile phone services on Monday.

The telecom behemoth stated in a statement that it was "aware of an issue impacting service for some customers."

“Verizon engineers are making progress on our network issue and service has started to be restored. “We know how much people rely on Verizon and apologize for any inconvenience some of our customers experienced today. We continue to work around the clock to fully resolve this issue.”

The FCC stated on social media Monday afternoon that it was monitoring the issue.

"We’re aware of a Verizon outage impacting customers in parts of the country," the agency said. "We are working to determine the cause and extent of these service disruptions."

DownDetector, a website that monitors connectivity issues for various web and digital services, reported more than 100,000 outages early Monday, but by 11:30 a.m., that figure had began to fall.

Customers have expressed dissatisfaction with Verizon's verified account on X, citing a lack of mobile service and an inability to connect to the network. Many Verizon iPhone customers reported that their phones were stuck in "SOS" mode Monday morning, only permitting emergency calls via satellite.

Verizon now has 114.2 million users in the United States.

It is the latest significant outage issue of 2024, following AT&T's downtime for a large number of users in February and a global glitch caused by an update related to cybersecurity company CrowdStrike that affected Microsoft systems worldwide in July.
