Russell Brand sexual assault allegations prompt UK police investigation
After three British media sites released a joint investigation into comedian and actor Russell Brand on Saturday, London's Metropolitan Police announced Monday they were investigating a 2003 sexual assault accusation.
Four women accused Brand of sexually assaulting them between 2006 and 2013 in an investigation by the Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4's “Dispatches” One woman stated she was 16 and Brand was 31 when the London assault occurred.
On Monday, a Met spokesperson stated, “We are aware of reporting by The Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches about allegations of sexual offenses.” The British comedian disputes the charges.
Sunday, September 17, the Met received a report of a 2003 sexual assault in Soho, central London. The woman will receive support from officers.
Brand disputed the allegations in a Friday video on his verified Instagram page before the news was released. In the video, Brand called the charges “very serious allegations that I absolutely refute.”
After the joint inquiry, Brand's "Bipolarisation" tour show at the Theatre Royal Windsor was postponed.
The venue posted a tour promoter statement: “We are postponing these few remaining addiction charity fundraiser shows, we don't like doing it - but we know you'll understand.”
