The actor O Yeong-su from "Squid Game" was found guilty of sexual harassment and given a suspended term

On Friday, O Yeong-su, a South Korean actor renowned for his role in the inaugural season of the popular Netflix series "Squid Game," was found guilty of sexual harassment and received a suspended prison term, as per a court official.

According to the court official, the Seongnam branch of the Suwon District Court sentenced O Yeong-su to an eight-month prison term, which was suspended for two years. Additionally, he was mandated to attend a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program.

The 79-year-old actor, who faced two charges of sexual harassment dating back to 2017, consistently refuted the allegations.

Upon departing the courtroom, O informed reporters of his intention to challenge the verdict. He has a seven-day window to lodge an appeal, failing which the ruling will stand.

In 2022, O was formally charged, with prosecutors initially seeking a one-year prison sentence, as per media accounts.

Despite the legal proceedings, O Yeong-su achieved acclaim by winning the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in television for his portrayal in "Squid Game" in 2022, marking him as the first South Korean to clinch the honor.
