Sophie Nyweide, a young actor who participated in the 2009 romantic drama "Mammoth" opposite Gael García Bernal and Michelle Williams, has away. She was 24.

An obituary for Nyweide on April 17 did not disclose her cause of death, but did characterize her as a very creative and trustworthy individual who struggled with severe emotional issues. Sophie Nyweide died on April 14, according to the obituary.

“She self medicated to deal with all the trauma and shame she held inside, and it resulted in her death,” the obituary stated. “She repeatedly said she would ‘handle it’ on her own and was compelled to reject the treatment that might possibly have saved her life.”

“Even with those roadmaps, diagnoses and her own revelations, those closest to her, plus therapists, law enforcement officers and others who tried to help her are heartbroken their efforts couldn’t save her from her fate.”

Nyweide is characterized as a daughter, granddaughter, sister, friend, and new aunt. Her most recent acting credit is "Noah" (2014), which stars Russell Crowe and Emma Watson. She is recalled as a "voracious" writer and artist whose writings and paintings were believed to have served as "roadmaps" for her anguish.

The family reported that Nyweide "seemed happiest on a movie set, becoming someone else."

“It was a safe place for her and she relish from the casts and crews who nourished her talent and her well being,” the family wrote. "She was an eager adventurer and picked up the customs and even languages of any place she visited."

Nyweide, who was born in July 2000 to former performer Shelly Gibso, was just six years old when she played the title part in her first major film, "Bella."

“She dreamed (more like demanded!) to be an actor, without ever knowing her mother was an actor, so she did that too with an ease we all marveled about,” her obit reads.

TV jobs on series like "Law & Order" and films like "And Then Came Love" and "Margot at the Wedding" followed.

“Sophie.  A life ended too soon,” the obituary notes towards its conclusion. “May it not be in vain. May we all learn from her brief life on earth and do better.  Yes, we must all protect our children and do better.”

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asked that donations be sent to RAINN, which describes itself as "the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization," in Nyweide's honor. A memorial ceremony is scheduled for an undetermined date.
