Rapper Rich Homie Quan, from Atlanta, passed away on Thursday at an Atlanta hospital. He was best known for his 2013 hit song "Type of Way." 34 was his age.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed his death but did not state why.

Dequantes Devontay Lamar, Quan's full name, passed away on Thursday at Grady Memorial Hospital, as reported by Jimmy Sadler, the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office's senior medical examiner investigator.

According to Sadler, an autopsy is planned for this Friday. It was not stated what caused the death.

Quan rose to fame alongside rappers such as Young Thug, whose catchy style of rapping can be heard in songs like "Type of Way" from 2013 and "Lifestyle" from 2014. The later song, which was released on a platinum record in the US and helped launch the careers of both Young Thug and Birdman together, also featured Young Thug and the group Rich Gang.

Later, the two fell out over what Quan claimed to be ego and money-related problems, and some of their arguments have come up in testimony throughout the trial.

The Michigan State football team used the song "Type of Way," which is about ambition and romance, as its anthem when Quan made his solo debut in 2013. Regarding the song, reviewer Jon Caramanica of The New York Times declared that Quan was a member of a new wave of rappers "who deliver lines with melody and heart, like singers on the verge of a breakdown."

In 2018, Motown Records released Quan's sole full-length studio album, "Rich as in Spirit," which had one feature from Rick Ross. His mixtapes were released between 2012 and 2017, with most of them reaching the Billboard Top 200. He has collaborated with musicians such as YG and 2 Chainz. An earworm of a song from 2015 called "Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)" started a viral dance frenzy. Since then, the song has become triple platinum.

On October 4, 1989, Dequantes Devontay Lamar was born in Atlanta. He was the eldest of four siblings and was a talented athlete growing up, especially in baseball. He started stealing televisions and other devices because he didn't think he would make it in athletics and thought college was a "waste of money." In 2011, he was arrested for burglary and served 15 months in jail.

Despite his quick rise to fame, Rich Homie Quan has a history of substance abuse issues that put him in legal hot water at one point in his career. He was accused with felony narcotics possession in 2017, but the case was dropped two years later. Quan maintained his reputation as a major player in the rap scene in spite of these difficulties, winning over devoted fans who respected his perseverance and musical taste.
