Established Kool & The Gang drummer George 'Funky' Brown dies at 74
George "Funky" Brown (born George Brown), the drummer for Kool & The Gang, passed away, his family revealed on Friday. His age was 74.
In a Facebook tribute, Kool & The Gang praised him as "the funkiest drummer the world has ever seen." "His beautiful soul is at rest," they continued. George, we cherish you. We are appreciative that you have brought us joy.
With the brothers Robert "Kool" and Ronald Bell, Dennis "Dee Tee" Thomas, Robert "Spike" Mickens, Charles Smith, Woodrow "Woody" Sparrow, and Ricky West, Brown founded Kool & The Gang in New Jersey in 1974.
Brown co-wrote some of the band's greatest singles in addition to playing drums. These songs include the number one hit "Celebration," as well as "Ladies Night," "Jungle Boogie," "Get Down On It," and "Too Hot."
Robert "Kool" Bell and Brown were among the longest-serving members of Kool & The Gang, despite the fact that the group's lineup has varied throughout time. Brown continued to perform with the group. Presently, Bell is the group's lone remaining original member.
