California senator Dianne Feinstein dies at age 90

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat from California who spent thirty years in the Senate and was a strong supporter of gun control laws, passed away at the age of ninety.

"Senator Feinstein never wavered in her defense of what was fair and morally upright. James Sauls, her chief of staff, stated in a statement that "she was always willing to work with anyone, even those she disagreed with, if it meant bettering the lives of Californians or the betterment of our nation." Although the cause of death was not disclosed by Feinstein's office, her health had been progressively deteriorating in recent months.

In February of 2024, Feinstein—who is now the oldest senator in the Senate, the longest-serving woman in the Senate, and the longest-serving senator from California—announced her intention to retire at the end of her term.

In honor of Feinstein, Biden ordered the White House flags to be lowered.
