Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul Match Postponed Due to Tyson's Medical Issue
The boxing match between former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson and Jake Paul has been postponed following a recent ulcer flare-up that left Tyson dizzy on a plane, promoters announced on Friday.
Tyson experienced a health issue during a flight from Los Angeles to Miami on Sunday, requiring medical attention. Initially, it seemed this wouldn't impact the fight, but his most recent health checkup changed that assessment.
"During a follow up consultation on Thursday with medical professionals on his recent ulcer flare up, the recommendation is for Mike Tyson to do minimal to light training over the next few weeks and then return to full training with no limitations," read an official statement.
Jake Paul, who transitioned to boxing in 2018 after gaining fame on social media, agreed to the postponement to "ensure that both athletes have equal training time to prepare for this important match and are able to compete at the highest level."
“I fully support postponing the event so Mike Tyson has no excuses come fight night,” Paul said in a statement. “My fans know I don’t want to face Iron Mike at anything but his best, but let there be no mistake – when he steps into the ring with me, I will be ready to claim my W with a sensational finish. Paul vs Tyson will be one for the ages, and I promise to bring my best for this once-in-a-lifetime matchup.”
The fight, scheduled to take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, will be broadcast live on Netflix.
Tyson’s publicist stated that a new date for the match will be announced on June 7.
