Phillies offer Nola $172 million, 7-year contract with bonus if moved in 2024 or 25

The Philadelphia Phillies wanted Aaron Nola to stay.

“I’ve always been a Phillie. It’s the only place we kind of had our eyes set on,” Nola said Monday at Citizens Bank Park, a day after agreeing to a $172 million, seven-year contract. “It’s the most comfortable place for me.”

First top-level free agent to sign was Nola. Seventh overall by Philadelphia in 2014, the 30-year-old right-hander has been one of the most durable pitchers since his 2015 big league debut.

Nola will make $24,571,428 each year after earning $16 million this year in a five-season contract worth $56.75 million.

If traded in 2024 or 2025, he gets $1 million assignment bonus. By 2025, Nola will be a 10-year veteran with five years with his team and can veto deals without his consent.

On road trips, Nola gets a suite and $50,000 bonuses for All-Star, Gold Glove, or League Championship Series MVP. World Series MVP pays $100,000.

Nola received $100,000 for a Cy Young Award, $50,000 for second place, and $25,000 for third.
