Alijah Arenas, a top USC recruit and son of NBA great Gilbert Arenas, is hospitalized after a crash

Alijah Arenas, the son of former NBA great Gilbert Arenas and a promising college basketball prospect, was hospitalized after crashing a Tesla Cybertruck in Los Angeles on Thursday morning, according to a law enforcement source with knowledge of the situation.
Arenas, who had committed to the University of Southern California earlier this year, collided with a tree and a fire hydrant while driving the Cybertruck just before 5 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Alijah Arenas, a top-tier USC recruit, was hospitalized and placed in a medically induced coma following the incident. Arenas is in stable condition, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police are investigating if speed was a role, and there was no apparent indication that alcohol was involved.
A snapshot from the collision site shows a destroyed silver Cybertruck twisted around a tree, the windshield smashed and the driver's side windows blown out.
The automobile is registered to Gilbert Arenas until September of this year, according to the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
College basketball guru Jon Rothstein appeared to corroborate the news, saying "Prayers to Alijah Arenas and his family" along with a sequence of prayer hand emojis.
Arenas, 18, is the son of Gilbert Arenas, a former NBA standout. The No. 10 talent in the 2025 class committed to USC and coach Eric Musselman in January, following offers from Kentucky, Kansas, Arizona, Louisville, and others.
Arenas competed in the McDonald's All American Game earlier this month, which is an annual showcase of the best high school basketball seniors. He played 14 minutes for the West squad in a 105-92 victory and scored 11 points.
USC has the No. 9 recruiting class for 2025, with Arenas leading the way. The Trojans have seven incoming transfers, including former Maryland standout Rodney Rice, who committed to USC earlier this week.
