The FAA is investigating after an engine fire forced passengers on a Delta Air Lines flight to evacuate down emergency slides onto the tarmac at Orlando International Airport this morning.

The completely full Airbus A330 plane had just departed its gate to fly to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport when a fire was reported in one of the two engines, according to statements from the Federal Aviation Administration and Delta Air Lines.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, Flight 1213 was pushing back from the gate for takeoff at 11:15 a.m. when an engine caught fire.

Passengers were evacuated with slides. The airliner, an Airbus A330, was bound for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Delta said that the full-capacity flight carried 282 passengers, 10 flight attendants, and two pilots.

After flames were spotted in the exhaust of one of the aircraft's engines, the crew evacuated passengers using established protocols. Delta stated that there were no immediate reports of injury.

A passenger on the aircraft captured video of a charred jet wing when it was on the tarmac. Other photographs on social media showed passengers exiting the slide.

“We are calling the fire trucks right now, we see that,” a controller noted on audio recorded by the website Broadcastify. Emergency responders were then cleared to go to the plane.

No passengers were reported injured.

The cause of the fire is not immediately apparent. Delta stated that maintenance crews will inspect the aircraft, and the FAA is investigating.

Delta announced that another aircraft will be sent in to transport passengers to their final destinations.

"We appreciate our customers’ cooperation and apologize for the experience. Nothing is more important than safety and Delta teams will work to get our customers to their final destinations as soon as possible," the airline said Monday.
