On Thursday evening, a pickup truck and a tour group's passenger van crashed in Idaho near Yellowstone National Park, killing seven people, according to the Idaho State Police. Following the incident, both automobiles caught fire.

The collision occurred near Henry's Lake, approximately 20 miles east of Yellowstone National Park.

At around 7:15 p.m., Idaho State Police troopers arrived to find a collision between a Dodge Ram pickup truck and a Mercedes passenger van.

The van was operating as a tour vehicle and had 14 people onboard, while there was one person in the truck, police said.

According to officials, the accident killed six individuals in the van and the driver of the pickup truck. At least 16 victims were treated on the spot, and the severity of the injuries necessitated at least one air ambulance.

"Due to the magnitude of the incident and the ongoing process of notifying the next of kin, no names, ages, hometowns, or nationalities have been released," state police said.

Brenda Dye, the Fremont County coroner, identified the driver and only occupant of the pickup as Isaiah Moreno, 25, of Texas. Ms. Dye stated that she was awaiting the results of DNA testing to identify the six persons slain in the vehicle, as the remains were unrecognizable.

In an interview on Friday, Ms. Dye revealed that all six were from outside the United States.  She stated that two were from Italy, while the other four were from an unknown location. They had been part of a group seeing Yellowstone, she said.

Police are examining the collision's cause.

U.S. Highway 20 closed for nearly seven hours after the crash and has since reopened, police said.

The victims' names will be released by the coroner once their families are notified, police said.
