Authorities in Seattle report one dead and twelve injured following a Metro bus collision with a building

Authorities said that a Metro bus struck a car at a crosswalk in downtown Seattle, ran over a pedestrian, and crashed into a building, resulting in one fatality and twelve injuries.

According to the Seattle Fire Department, of the victims who made it out of the incident, one was in critical condition and the others are in stable condition.

The Seattle Police Department reports that the collision occurred close to Seattle's Belltown neighborhood at approximately 3:30 p.m. local time.

At the intersection of 5th Avenue and Battery Street, a red sedan heading south and an eastbound King County Metro bus collided, according to police.

According to a statement released early on Sunday by police detective Judinna Gulpan, "the collision caused the Metro Bus to leave the roadway crashing into a building near the intersection."

According to Gulpan, a woman who was strolling outside the building the bus crashed into was struck and killed by the vehicle. According to Gulpan, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene; her name was not released right away.

Firefighters had to free the driver of the red sedan after it crashed violently into the structure. According to police, the driver—a man—was transported by ambulance to Harborview Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

According to Gulpan, the bus driver and the passengers all received on-the-spot medical attention from the officers for minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigations are ongoing to determine what caused the collision.
