A bus falls off an overpass close to Venice, Italy, killing 21 people, including two infants

Officials reported that a bus crash on Tuesday in the Mestre, Italy, suburb near Venice, resulted in the deaths of 21 people—including two babies—and the injuries of another 15 passengers.

Authorities stated on Wednesday that prosecutors are looking into if the coach's 40-year-old driver suddenly became ill prior to it tumbling off an overpass and onto a highway. Additionally, investigators are examining the bus's certification.

Authorities stated on X, the website that was formerly known as Twitter, that the bus was transporting people to a campsite in Marghera at the time of the collision.

Numerous injured individuals were classified as code red, meaning their condition was critical, and were saved during an evacuation operation. Officials later revised the number of injured persons from 18 to 15 on Wednesday.

Five hospitals in Veneto received the injured passengers, according to officials.

The majority of the people on the bus, according to Veneto Governor Luca Zaia, were foreign visitors, though it was still unknown on Wednesday which nations they were from. As of right now, there were no reports of Americans riding the bus.
