A US Navy destroyer in the Red Sea intercepts multiple drones and three missiles that are traveling north from Yemen

Three missiles and multiple drones fired from Yemen and traveling north were intercepted by a U.S. Navy cruiser on Thursday, according to the Pentagon.

Three ground attack cruise missiles and multiple drones fired by Houthi forces in Yemen were intercepted by the USS Carney, a Navy warship stationed in the northern Red Sea, according to Pentagon press secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder Thursday. According to him, they were shot down over the sea.

During a Pentagon briefing, Ryder stated, "We cannot say for certain what these missiles and drones were targeting, but they were launched from Yemen heading north along the Red Sea, potentially towards targets in Israel." There's no way the missiles were intended for the ship, according to a U.S. official.

The U.S. is ready to take any necessary action "to protect our partners and our interests in this important region," according to Ryder, who also stated that the missiles were shot down because they "posed a potential threat" based on their flight profile. He stated the United States is still determining the nature of the target.
