Israel claims that Yemeni militants take over a cargo ship in the Red Sea that has 25 crew members on board
Israel claims that on Sunday, a cargo ship in the Red Sea that was carrying twenty-five crew members was taken over.
The ship was allegedly taken over by Houthi militants in Yemen, according to the Israel Defense Forces. The Israeli prime minister's office said that a British corporation owned the ship and a Japanese company ran it; it did not disclose the names of the companies.
“The hijacking of a cargo ship by the Houthis near Yemen in the southern Red Sea is a very grave incident of global consequence. The ship departed Turkey on its way to India, staffed by civilians of various nationalities, not including Israelis. The IDF declared in a statement, "It is not an Israeli ship."
In Yemen, a coalition supported by Saudi Arabia is up against the Houthis, a Shia political and military group. They have coordinated rallies against Israel's attack on Gaza and expressed support for the Palestinians.
