Drone strike in Jordan results in three US soldiers dead and many others wounded

According to US Central Command, a drone attack on a base in northeast Jordan, close to the Syrian border, resulted in the deaths of three US soldiers and the injuries of twenty-five others.

Since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict on October 7, these are the first American deaths in months of attacks by militant groups supported by Iran. The troops' identities have not been revealed until their next of kin have been notified.

President Joe Biden said in a statement that "we are still gathering the facts of this attack" and that "radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq" were responsible for the deaths of the soldiers.

"America's heart is heavy today," Biden remarked. "Our forces are stationed in northeast Jordan, close to the Syrian border. Last night, an unmanned aerial drone attack claimed the lives of three U.S. service members and injured numerous others."

“We will strive to be worthy of their honor and valor. We will carry on their commitment to fight terrorism. And have no doubt — we will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner our choosing,” Biden said.
