The US State Department is offering $10 million for information on a ransomware gang that has hit US hospitals

On Thursday, the US State Department revealed a $10 million reward for any information leading to the identification of the leaders of a notorious ransomware syndicate accused of extorting over $100 million from various institutions, including hospitals and schools, across the United States and globally.

Additionally, the State Department pledged $5 million for details resulting in the arrest or conviction of the suspected cybercriminals. This initiative is part of an ongoing State Department reward program designed to incentivize disclosures about the world's most perilous cyber offenders.

The recent announcement spotlighted a transnational ransomware faction called Hive, which the FBI infiltrated the previous year. The FBI disclosed having gained access to Hive's computer networks for several months, successfully thwarting $130 million in ransom demands from victims.

According to the Justice Department, a ransomware assault orchestrated with Hive's malicious software in August 2021 compelled a US hospital in the Midwest to refuse patients amidst the surge of Covid-19 cases.
