Elon Musk is ordered to testify by a judge in the SEC's Twitter investigation
Elon Musk has been directed by a federal judge to testify once again in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) investigation into his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter. The judge, Laurel Beeler, issued the order on Saturday night, formalizing a preliminary decision made in December that favored the SEC.
The SEC filed a lawsuit against Musk in October, seeking his testimony in connection to the investigation into his 2022 purchase of Twitter, which he later renamed X. Musk had declined to participate in an interview in September, part of the SEC's probe.
The SEC is investigating whether Musk complied with the law when submitting required paperwork regarding his Twitter stock acquisitions and if his statements concerning the deal were misleading.
Despite Musk's resistance to the SEC's interview request, Judge Beeler rejected his argument, asserting that the SEC had the authority to issue a subpoena for relevant information.
Judge Beeler has given the SEC and Musk a week to mutually agree on a date and location for the interview. If an agreement is not reached, she will hear from both parties and make a decision on the matter.
