The Senate dismisses both impeachment articles against Mayorkas

The Senate has decided to dismiss the second and concluding impeachment charge against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

In a strictly partisan vote of 51 to 49, lawmakers made their decision, following an earlier vote today that disposed of the first impeachment article.

The entirety of the proceedings took merely three hours.

Mayorkas now stands as only the second Cabinet secretary in U.S. history to face impeachment. The House had accused him in February of "willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law" and a "breach of public trust."
