Alejandro Mayorkas, the secretary of homeland security, is not impeached by House Republicans

With a narrow margin of 214-216, the House fell short of impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

The vote followed a series of vacancies, primarily on the Republican side, which greatly tightened the margins for House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Three Republicans—Representatives Ken Buck of Colorado, Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin, and Tom McClintock of California—aligned with the Democrats in voting against the resolution.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise was absent from the vote as he continues to recuperate in Louisiana from a stem cell transplant.
