Jake Sullivan Meets Representatives of Nations with Citizens Detained by Hamas
President Joe Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan had his face, to face meeting this week with ambassadors and diplomatic representatives from countries whose citizens were kidnapped by Hamas on October 7.
Yesterday Jake Sullivan sat down with envoys from Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Spain,Thailand and the United Kingdom. These 18 nations all have their nationals held captive by Hamas in Gaza.
During the meeting special representatives and envoys discussed tactics to urge negotiating parties like Israel,Egypt and Qatar to resume talks and finalize a truce agreement. One proposal was to present a front at the United Nations.
In April the same 18 countries jointly issued a declaration urging the release of all hostages stressing that the situation is "of global concern,"and urging Hamas to accept an earlier ceasefire offer made by Israel.
The combined actions of these nations to push for a resolution come as President Biden grapples with pressure both, at home and abroad as the conflict enters its month.
