After several days of talks, the UN Security Council adopts a resolution on Gaza
A resolution urging "urgent and extended humanitarian pauses and corridors throughout the Gaza Strip for a sufficient number of days to enable full, rapid, safe, and unhindered humanitarian access" was passed by the UN on Friday.
Having previously vetoed draft resolutions, the United States chose not to participate in the vote. Furthermore, Russia did not cast a ballot.
13-0 was the vote in favor. Following several days of delay due to the council revising the text's language, it finally happens now.
Following the vote, US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield described the council's ruling as a "strong humanitarian resolution," emphasizing that it was made evident that "all parties must respect international humanitarian law."
