The Colorado Supreme Court strikes Trump from the state's ballot for 2024

Colorado's Supreme Court made a stunning ruling on Tuesday, holding that former President Donald Trump cannot run for office in the state's primary the following year due to constitutional restrictions.

The 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution contains a little-known clause that served as the basis for the precedent-setting decision. Similar attempts in other states have not succeeded.

"A majority of the court holds that President Trump is disqualified from holding the office of President under Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution," the decision from Colorado stated. "The Colorado Secretary of State would be in violation of the Election Code if she listed him as a candidate on the presidential primary ballot because he is disqualified."

To allow for more appeals, the court postponed its ruling until January 4. Additionally, it stated that the pause would continue to be in place if the case was taken before the US Supreme Court before that period.
