Russia demands an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council about US strikes

According to the spokesperson Maria Zakharova from the Russian foreign ministry, Russia has formally requested an immediate session of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the recent US airstrikes conducted in Iraq and Syria.

As reported by the Russian state news agency TASS on Saturday, Zakharova emphasized that the American airstrikes highlighted the aggressive stance of US policy in the Middle East and the complete disregard for international laws by Washington.

TASS also reported that a session of the UN Security Council regarding the US strikes has been scheduled for February 5th. However, specific details regarding the emergency meeting have not been officially released by the UN.

Earlier on Saturday, Moscow issued a statement condemning the US for escalating conflicts and causing devastation and disorder in the Middle East.

This criticism from Russia comes amidst its ongoing intense conflict following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
