Israel is warned by Iran's foreign minister in Beirut to cease its attacks in Gaza

Iran's foreign minister urged Israel to halt attacking Gaza on Saturday, warning that Hezbollah joining the fight would cause “a huge earthquake” in Israel.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told Beirut reporters that Hezbollah has considered all war scenarios and Israel should cease attacking Gaza immediately.

Israel considers Hezbollah its biggest immediate threat, with 150,000 rockets and missiles, including precision-guided missiles that can target anyplace in Israel. The group boasts thousands of battle-hardened warriors from Syria's 12-year struggle and several military drones.

The Israeli military says a drone attack along the Lebanon border killed a “cell” trying to infiltrate Israel on Saturday. Hezbollah said its forces fired several missiles at four Israeli border locations on Friday.

According to Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV, Amir-Abdollahian discussed Gaza and the area with Hamas exile leader Saleh Arouri and Palestinian Islamic Jihad commander Ziad Nakhaleh in Beirut on Saturday.

Amir-Abdollahian left Beirut on Saturday afternoon after visiting Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon, where Tehran has significant influence.

With an eye on Hezbollah, President Joe Biden has urged other Middle Eastern players not to join the battle, sent American warships, and pledged complete support for Israel.

According to the Iranian foreign minister, “there is still an opportunity to work on an initiative (to end the war) but it might be too late tomorrow.” He will contact U.N. Middle East officials.
