Drones are being tested by Amazon to deliver your prescription drugs in an hour or less

Amazon is piloting a drone service to deliver pharmacy patients' drugs in an hour or less.

Wednesday, the firm announced it is testing drone delivery with College Station, Texas consumers. Amazon Pharmacy delivers orders within 60 minutes for free.

Customers can order over 500 flu, asthma, and pneumonia drugs.

The goal is to treat patients promptly to improve medical treatment.

"Our drones fly over traffic, eliminating the extra time a customer's package might spend on the road," said Prime Air director of product and program management Calsee Hendrickson. That's drone delivery's beauty, and our consumers first requested fast drone delivery of medications. Speed and convenience are key health purchase priorities."

The drones can fly at least 40 meters and have sensors to avoid obstructions.

Before releasing parcels, drones use cameras to detect humans, dogs, and items at a customer's home.

The business said customers can retrieve their medications without touching the drones.

Amazon has securely delivered hundreds of non-pharmaceutical items in College Station using drones over the past year.
