As tensions rise, Hezbollah destroys Israeli surveillance cameras near the Lebanese border

Hezbollah said Monday it has begun destroying surveillance cameras on many Israeli army stations along the border as tensions rise after the Israel-Hamas war.

Hezbollah's military media arm published a video showing snipers shooting at and smashing surveillance cameras on five Lebanon-Israel border locations, including one outside Metula.

It appears that the terrorist group wants to prevent the Israeli army from monitoring activities on the Lebanese side of the border after days of fire exchange that killed at least seven persons, including four Hezbollah fighters.

Tension along the Lebanon-Israel border has increased since Hamas' Oct. 7 raid on southern Israel, which killed over 1,400 Israeli civilians and IDF. Israeli military shelled Lebanese border areas while Hezbollah fired anti-tank rockets on Israeli army positions.

Israeli and Hezbollah were close foes that waged a monthlong war in summer 2006. The Iran-backed Shiite militant group Hezbollah, which Israel estimates has 150,000 rockets and missiles, is its biggest direct threat.

Hezbollah, supported by Iran, may join the Israeli war. Joe Biden advised other Middle Eastern players not to enter the battle earlier this month, ordered American warships to the region, and pledged complete support for Israel.

On Monday, the Israeli military ordered 28 towns bordering Lebanon to evacuate. The military order affects towns within two kilometers (1.2 miles) of the border.
