During a Sunday flight from Palma de Mallorca to Vienna, an Austrian Airlines plane was severely damaged after running into a hail storm. The hail impacted the two front cockpit windows, the nose of the aircraft, and some coverings.

Following the encounter with the storm, the crew issued a mayday call for assistance. The plane safely landed at Vienna International Airport, and thankfully, no injuries were reported on board.

The airline said its technical team “is already tasked with assessing the specific damage to the aircraft” — which was an Airbus A320.

“The safety of our passengers and crews is the top priority for Austrian Airlines,” the airline said.

This incident comes after last month's event on Singapore Airlines flight SQ321, where a passenger passed away and over 70 others were injured due to severe turbulence.
