On Saturday, a man went on a stabbing spree in a tiny city in France, killing one and wounding many others in what President Emmanuel Macron described as "an Islamist terrorist attack."

“It was a terrorist attack, there’s no doubt — an Islamist terrorist attack,” he said, adding that the government was determined “to root out terrorism in our country.”  The police said they were investigating the stabbing as a terrorist attack.

The guy went for a market in Mulhouse, a place approximately 70 miles south of Strasbourg on France's border with Germany and Switzerland.

A 37-year-old Algerian male was detained at the site, and the prosecution has launched a terrorism investigation since the suspect allegedly screamed "Allahu Akbar," or "God is great."

The alleged attacker, an Algerian male apprehended, is on a terror prevention watchlist, according to the anti-terrorism prosecution agency (PNAT).

According to union sources, he was under court monitoring and home imprisonment, and he was also ordered expelled from France.

A citizen who attempted to stop the guy was slain, according to authorities.  Three police officers were also hurt in the incident, two of them critically.

Following the incident, police set up a security cordon while forensic experts sought for evidence.  Military forces have been dispatched to provide backup.
