Local media reports that US and other foreigners cannot enter Egypt from Gaza today

According to a local Egyptian news program, Alqahera News, Egyptian authorities are refusing to let US citizens and citizens of other nations enter Egypt through the Rafah border crossing on Saturday, citing the need for the passage to also enable humanitarian aid to Gaza.

"The idea of restricting use of the Rafah crossing to foreigners has been rejected by Egyptian authorities." According to Alqahera News, which cited Egyptian sources, "They further stated that the Egyptian stance is unambiguous and that it necessitates the opening and passage of aid to the Gaza Strip."

This follows Saturday afternoon's announcement from the US State Department that the Rafah border crossing "may be open" to Palestinian-Americans residing in Gaza.
