Saudi Arabia will amend its alcohol laws

Ahead of the anticipated opening of Riyadh's inaugural liquor store, Saudi Arabia has unveiled new regulations regarding alcohol, particularly concerning quotas for non-Muslim diplomatic missions. The aim, as stated by the governmental Center of International Communication (CIC), is to combat the illicit trade of alcohol products.

According to Reuters, which referenced both an insider source and a document, Saudi Arabia is preparing to establish its premier alcohol retail outlet in the capital city of Riyadh. This store will cater exclusively to non-Muslim diplomats.

It's important to note that the sale and consumption of alcohol in Saudi Arabia are strictly prohibited and carry severe penalties including lashes, deportation, fines, and imprisonment.

Nonetheless, under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia has embarked on a transformation of its tourism sector as part of a broader initiative to diversify the economy. This shift has fueled speculation about the potential legalization of alcohol in the Kingdom in the foreseeable future.
