Thousands of Capital One customers were locked out of their accounts for days

Thousands of customers have experienced difficulties doing their banking with Capital One due to an interruption in online services that began on Wednesday and continued into the weekend.
According to Down Detector, a service that monitors internet and application outages, roughly 4,000 consumers reported difficulty completing transactions with Capital One, a credit card and banking business located in McLean, Va., at least twice on Friday afternoon.
In a statement shared by Capital One’s customer service account on social media, the company said on Thursday that a “technical issue with a third-party vendor” was “temporarily impacting some account services, deposits, and payment processing for portions of our consumer, small business, and commercial bank.”
Customers were irritated by delays with direct deposit payments, and several complained on social media.
Capital One, which has over 100 million clients, said it was attempting to restore access to everyone affected. It was unclear how many consumers were affected.
“We fully understand your frustration here and expect services to gradually begin to return to normal throughout today and the majority of issues to be resolved by tomorrow morning,” the company’s customer service account assured users on Thursday.
On Friday, the company said the disruption wasn’t “related to fraudulent activity or the work of bad actors attempting to access our systems,” adding, “Your funds are secure and will accurately show when the tech issue is resolved.”
These difficulties occurred the same week that federal authorities launched a complaint against Capital One, alleging that the business intentionally undervalued interest on savings accounts even as interest rates soared.
The lawsuit alleges that the business may have lost its depositors more than $2 billion.
Capital One stated in an emailed statement on Saturday that it has made "substantial progress" in fixing the issues.
“We have restored full account functionality and processed outstanding transactions for most of our customers, and are completing work to restore full service to all of our customers as soon as possible,” the statement said. “We sincerely apologize to our valued customers.”
