Ford will delay its all-electric SUV to focus on hybrids by 2030
Ford Motor is delaying construction of an all-electric three-row SUV while it transitions to hybrids across its North American portfolio by 2030.
On Thursday, the Detroit manufacturer said it will continue to invest in EVs but will delay production of the giant SUV at a Canadian factory from 2025 to 2027 to mature the market.
“As the No. 2 EV brand in the U.S. for the past two years, we are committed to scaling a profitable EV business, using capital wisely and bringing to market the right gas, hybrid and fully electric vehicles at the right time,” said Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO.
Ford's electric vehicle sales rose 86% in Q1 2024. Ford sold 42% more hybrids and 2.6% more regular automobiles with internal combustion engines.
