After ten years, Kim Kardashian's mobile game is closing
After nearly a decade, “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood,” the smartphone game that propelled her to fame and money, is closing.
Players created Kardashian-like avatars to climb the social ladder to become virtual A-listers.
“I’m so grateful from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has loved and played ‘Kim Kardashian: Hollywood’ in the past 10 years,” Kardashian added. “This journey has meant so much to me but I’ve realized that it’s time to focus that energy into other passions.”
Glu Mobile, the game's maker, says it was downloaded 145 million times and made $160 million in its first two years.
After that popularity, Glu made mobile games based on Britney Spears and Gordon Ramsay. Electronics Arts acquired it for $2 billion in 2021.
Don't think Kardashian needs the game anymore. The previous decade has seen her become a corporate magnate. She is mainly known for Skims, an underwear and apparel line that has moved into menswear. It may precede the company's IPO.
Last year, she cofounded SKYY Partners, a private equity firm. Truff, a trendy truffle-infused sauce maker, was its first investment.
