The New York Mets fired manager Buck Showalter

New York Mets are looking for a new manager for the fifth time in six years.

In a disappointing season, baseball's highest-spending team fell out of contention by midsummer, and Buck Showalter was fired on Sunday.

A few minutes after the fourth-place Mets announced the change, Showalter, who is 67 years old, said before Sunday's game against Philadelphia that he would not be back next year.

"Managing a second New York team was an honor for me." I think the Mets did a great job. I think we won about 180 games in two years. I had the most fun playing the game ever, including last year. Sheryl Showalter, who managed the New York Yankees from 1992 to 1995, said, "It reminded me why I've always loved this kind of work."

That would have been great if things had gone better this season for Mets fans. "Sometimes I think about what might have happened if this or that had happened, but I try not to live in that world," he said. Though I didn't want this to end this way, I still love this city and the players.
