Rubiales was given an injunction after he denied doing anything wrong in front of a Spanish court
The former head of the Spanish soccer federation, Luis Rubiales, has been banned from getting in touch with the player he kissed on the lips at the Women's World Cup last month, the National Court of Spain said Friday.
The state prosecutors' office said that Rubiales went before Judge Francisco de Jorge and denied doing anything wrong when he was asked about kissing Spain player Jenni Hermoso on the lips during the awards event.
After listening to Rubiales, the court gave him a restraining order that says he can't be within 200 yards of Hermoso. The state officials wanted this ban to go as far as 500 meters (yards).
The judge said no to the prosecutors' and Hermoso's lawyer's requests to make Rubiales check in with a court every 15 days and to freeze Rubiales' assets.
After Spain beat England to win the Women's World Cup on August 20 in Sydney, Australia, Rubiales gave Hermoso a kiss on the lips. He said she let him kiss her, but Hermoso has rejected that over and over.
Last week, Rubiales was officially charged with sexual abuse and forcing someone to do something by the Spanish government. Hermoso says that Rubiales put pressure on her right after the story broke to say something in his defense.
