Wildfire evacuation orders remain in place for 88,000 people in Los Angeles County
During a press conference on Tuesday, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna announced that around 88,000 individuals are under evacuation orders.
More than 84,000 people are under evacuation orders, he added.
An evacuation order is required, whereas a warning is intended to prepare those who may soon have to flee. When an evacuation notice is issued, people should at the very least begin to prepare to evacuate, Luna added.
“Actually, we recommend you go,” he said. “Don’t wait ‘til the order is given.”
The wind event forecast for portions of Los Angeles and Ventura counties from Tuesday morning to midday Wednesday has been described as a "particularly dangerous situation" by the National Weather Service.
The Palisades and Eaton fires, together with many minor blazes, have burnt a total of 38,600 acres in Los Angeles County.
One week after two large wildfires broke out in Los Angeles County, around 88,000 households are still under evacuation orders.
Although some parts of the Palisades Fire along the Los Angeles County coast and the Eaton Fire northeast of Los Angeles have been repopulated, an additional 84,800 people are under evacuation orders, with flame-fanning winds anticipated to intensify through Wednesday.
"There is a decrease in these numbers, but as our fire partners have stated, it is still very dangerous for the next 24 hours," said Sheriff Robert Luna.
