All components of NYC transit system safe following earthquake, MTA chief says

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), responsible for managing New York City's subway and other public transit, has confirmed that all components of the transit system are functioning safely after this morning's earthquake.

MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber affirmed that every segment of the transit system maintained safety standards throughout the earthquake. Lieber also mentioned the completion of initial facility inspections, including assessments of the seven bridges under MTA jurisdiction.

“I want to emphasize those were designed to withstand much stronger seismic impact than we experienced today,” he added.
