Trump says mass deportations would start "very quickly" after he takes office
President-elect Donald Trump stated that his government intends to carry out large deportations of undocumented immigrants "very quickly" after taking office, emphasizing his intention to "get the criminals out of our country" as a policy priority.
Trump stated that he expected deportations of illegal immigrants to begin "very early, very quickly," but did not specify which cities his government will initially target.
“It’ll begin very early, very quickly,” he told. “I can’t say which cities because things are evolving. And I don’t think we want to say what city. You’ll see it firsthand.”
“We have to get the criminals out of our country. And I think you would agree with that. I don’t know how anyone could not agree,” he continued.
Trump has long planned mass deportations of immigrants, dating back to the early days of his presidential campaign. However, in the weeks preceding up to his inauguration, Trump and his associates predicted that the government may begin operations within days of taking office, with a focus on several major cities.
Although field teams have not been given explicit specifics about what will happen next week, federal agents deployed to the region have been instructed to prepare cases and operations that are "ready to go," according to officials.
Tom Homan, the new border czar, has already hinted at these activities, with a particular focus on Chicago.
In December, Homan paid a visit to the city and pledged that enforcement will begin there.
"All that starts Jan. 21, and we're going to start right here in Chicago, Illinois," Homan said during the visit.
Homan has promised to go after violent offenders in the United States.
