Mike Pence halts his presidential campaign
Mike Pence, former Vice President, has suspended his presidential campaign due to low poll ratings and financial issues, promising to assist elect “principled Republican leaders” moving forward.
“After much prayer and deliberation, I have decided to suspend my campaign for president effective today,” Pence announced Saturday at the Republican Jewish Coalition's annual meeting in Las Vegas.
“I'm leaving this campaign, but I promise you I will always fight for conservative values and elect principled Republican leaders to every office in the nation. So help me, God, Pence stated Saturday.
Having broken with his former boss Donald Trump over the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, Pence refocused on the conservative values that formed the contemporary Republican Party with Ronald Reagan, his political beacon.
His 2024 withdrawal supports the idea that Trump's conservatism has long since dominated the GOP. Trump leads the 2024 GOP presidential campaign despite his legal issues.
