Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "should resign," according to Nancy Pelosi

Nancy Pelosi, the former House Speaker, expressed her belief that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should step down. She criticized his forceful retaliation in Gaza following Hamas' attack on October 7th, stating that Netanyahu has been a hindrance to peace for years.

Pelosi made these comments in an interview with Irish public broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann while visiting Ireland.

"We recognize Israel's right to protect itself," Pelosi told the Irish outlet. "We reject the policy and the practice of Netanyahu. Terrible. What could be worse than what he has done in response? First of all, the exposures. His intelligence person resigned — he should resign. He's ultimately responsible."

When asked if she considers Netanyahu an impediment to peace, Pelosi replied that she wasn't sure whether he fears peace, lacks the ability to achieve it, or simply doesn't desire it. However, she asserted that he has obstructed the two-state solution.

Pelosi recently urged the Biden administration to stop transferring weapons to Israel.

The Senate approved a $95 billion aid package on Tuesday, which had been passed by the House on Saturday. This package includes $26 billion in aid to Israel and humanitarian assistance for Gaza. Biden is anticipated to sign the bill into law.
