China does not denounce Iran's attacks on Israel

During a recent phone conversation between the foreign ministers of China and Iran, China acknowledged Iran's assertion that its actions against Israel were an exercise of self-defense. China refrained from condemning the weekend strikes during this discussion.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed China's condemnation of the attack on a consulate building within the Iranian embassy compound in Damascus. He emphasized that such actions are in violation of international law and deemed them unacceptable.

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed, "China has taken note of Iran's statement regarding the limited nature of its actions, framing them as a legitimate exercise of self-defense in response to the attack on the embassy building." Additionally, it highlighted Iran's commitment to restraint, stating that Iran has no intentions of escalating the situation further.

In a separate meeting, China’s Special Envoy on the Middle East, Zhai Jun, engaged with Israel’s Ambassador to China, Irit Ben-Abba Vitale. During this encounter, the Israeli ambassador expressed Israel's stance and concerns regarding the conflict in Gaza.
