After an earthquake in northwest China, at least 86 people died
In northwest China, an earthquake has left at least 86 people dead and 96 injured, according to a Tuesday morning local time report from state broadcaster CCTV.
As per Xinhua, the official Chinese media, rescue personnel, including representatives from the fire and emergency departments, were dispatched in response to the late-night earthquake that occurred in Gansu Province, China.
The region had experienced a magnitude 5.9 earthquake, according to the US Geological Survey, which also stated that there was likely widespread and significant economic damage.
At a shallow depth of slightly over 6 miles, the USGS estimates that the earthquake struck roughly 23 miles west northwest of Linxia Chengguanzhen. Around sixty miles separate the epicenter and Lanzhou, the provincial capital.
