Five wounded in Amsterdam stabbing attack, police say

A stabbing incident in the Dutch capital of Amsterdam has left at least five people injured, according to police.
The stabbing occurred near Dam Square in Amsterdam's center district. Police blocked off the area, and numerous ambulances and a trauma chopper arrived.
Following the incident at the central Dam Square on Thursday, one suspect was apprehended.
“A motive is currently still unclear, but part of our investigation,” police said in a statement.
There is no immediate word on the status of those injured.
The suspect, who was caught and will be questioned later on Thursday, was overcome with the assistance of a local citizen and sent to the hospital with a leg injury, according to police.
A tiny section of the iconic Dam Square remains blocked off for forensic examination.
According to local media, the stabbing disrupted a municipal council meeting attended by Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema.
