Gaza will get an additional 50 million euros in humanitarian help from the EU

Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, announced on Thursday that the EU will give Gaza an additional 50 million euros, or roughly $52 million, in humanitarian aid.

Following the first day of the summit of EU leaders, von der Leyen revealed at a news conference in Brussels that the first 56 metric tons of supplies from the EU had already reached Gaza by two planes to Egypt.

Both EU Council President Charles Michel and Von der Leyen underlined the bloc's dedication to resolving the humanitarian issue.

"With the leaders in the region in order to encourage solutions on humanitarian front and release of the hostages," the EU is in communication, according to Michel.

Michel responded that he "doesn't see any role" for Hamas, noting the group's classification as a terrorist organization, when asked if representatives of the group will be attending an upcoming meeting intended to resolve the dispute.
