Biden meets with the leaders of Chile and the Dominican Republic to discuss immigration and economic relations
On Thursday, President Joe Biden will have separate meetings with the leaders of Chile and the Dominican Republic to talk about important topics like immigration and economic ties.
The White House released a statement stating that the agenda items for the meeting with Dominican President Luis Abinader include bolstering economic relations, promoting democratic values and labor rights, and discussing the security situation in neighboring Haiti. The two leaders will be meeting bilaterally for the first time.
Speaking with Abinader in a press conference prior to the leaders' meeting, Biden stated that the two nations' friendship "runs deep, strengthened by generations of Dominicans becoming American citizens."
According to the White House, the discussions with President Gabriel Boric of Chile will cover economic cooperation, migration, and climate change.
The Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity Leaders' Summit, which Biden is hosting at the White House tomorrow, will also be discussed by the two leaders. According to the State Department, Biden announced the partnership last year with the intention of promoting regional economic integration and fighting economic inequality.
"We need to break the cycle where marginalized communities are hit the hardest by disasters and have the fewest resources to recover from crises and prepare for the next one," Biden stated at the time of announcing the initiative.
